Organizational Leadership an Example of the Topic Career by

Authoritative Leadership by Expert Prof Nelly | 02 Dec 2016 As we look towards the present reality, we see numerous individuals pursuing achievement and respect. Be that as it may, as we talk about the more elevated level individuals they are looking for the Self regard and Self completion need, while the lower level individuals are fundamentally looking for their physiological, Safety and Social needs. Furthermore, that is the manner by which we characterize an occupation of a pioneer. As we investigate the previous barely any years, we experience numerous developments, and changes in the hierarchical conduct. We have seen governments changing from absolutist to majority rule; these progressions are because of the incredible pioneers who thought of the idea of self-administering. (Kotler, pg 596) Subsequent to highlighting to what administration is, presently coming towards what impact is. Impact is the point at which an inpiduals conduct is to some degree changed by the effect of his companions, associations, world of politics, get-togethers and so on. Impact is fundamentally getting different people character or getting motivated by the individual. It doesn't generally bring about a positive way. An axiom improves it further An individual is known by the organization he keeps, this shows an inpiduals conduct is blend of his inclination just as his environmental factors and heredity. In any case, it relies upon an inpidual that to what broaden he/she accepts that they have to change their demeanor or conduct so as to modify in an association, and complete explicit errands. It relies upon the pioneer that up to what degree he attempts to impact his supporters and how enduring his impact is on his devotees. (Kotler, pg591) We can't state that administration is another word for impact on the grounds that a decent pioneer is an individual who impacts others so as to get past a specific undertaking in a best way, yet this impact can be fortunate or unfortunate. To each activity theres a response, same is the situation with affecting, however here ward variable is the response which is exceptionally reliant on the assurance of responder, which could be equivalent or might be inverse to what the pioneer has anticipated. A pioneer has the privilege to communicate inclinations or give models by utilizing models to whatever he considers is fitting yet this isn't ensured that the result would be a similar what he was really sitting tight for. The genuine activity of a pioneer isn't simply impacting however to endure each inborn and extraneous impact, and keeping up a degree of separation and controlling all the dangers that originate from the applying sources. An individual who realizes how to lead a gathering of individuals, he can lead by the assistance of genuine models and setting up extraordinary models for other people, instances of genuineness, truthfulness, truth, dedication and so on. He should have an inspirational disposition which can assist him with dealing with prickly issues. He ought to be speedy in dynamic and ought to have an obvious thought of the issue and its beginning. A pioneer is the person who mentors other, he never says I he generally says WE. A pioneer should set a way of rules for his supporters so that in viewpoint everybody recollects his great deeds. In actuality, a great devotee is the person who acknowledges the sets of his pioneer with full dedication and regard. We have seen models where a pioneer gets irritated and utilize harsh words which are terrible for a supporter; in such cases a devotee should challenge these imperfections with a firm demeanor. This can likewise help the pioneer in making his administration conduct progressively exact and successful. The adherents regard and responsibility plays a lot in an association. A decent devotee is a decent innovator later on; it gives strong grounds to the individual and he could actualize all the thoughts and methodologies he encountered from quite a while ago. What's more, it is frequently the most remunerated time of a pioneers vocation. (Kotler, pg 348) Customarily, associations were utilizing the speculations of authority, however realize the framework has moved to common sense. We currently need down to earth, advantageous instances of incredible pioneers. We have seen numerous and still the world requests more. Associations can accomplish great pioneers in the event that they orchestrate legitimate preparing programs for the top-level chiefs so they could execute new techniques in the division. The preparation projects ought to incorporate about the dynamic procedure inside time limits and successful utilization of recourses. Preparing ought to incorporate; at work and off the activity preparing programs and a reasonable utilization of such preparing in ordinary appraisal. Pioneers should think about the various jobs they play in an association. They ought to have a clear and exact thought of what job to be executed in what circumstance. In the event that the choice is about an obtaining of a fixed-resource; the pioneer should know how and where is to be bought and he ought to likewise have a sharp information about the spending plan also. In any case, when a choice is to taken in a war, a pioneer must be brisk and sharp and should arrange his group in a millisecond. A pioneer can be a contact, asset director, an initiator, a difficulty shooter and so forth. As Kotler makes reference to that a pioneer is the person who adapts up to change, as change is constantly opposed from the start and isn't invited by the workers so it is the job of a pioneer that how he spurs his group to acknowledge the change since it thwarts progress. Stephen P. Robbins likewise expresses that there are six significant strategies that should be actualized so as to acknowledge the change, the strategies are: correspondence, training, assistance and b acking, exchange, interest, control and cooptation. The board ought to mastermind such preparing projects and workshops that can teach pioneers on every one of his jobs and every one of the six strategies he can use so as to modify his styles. (Robbins, pg 218) Pioneers can form an association in the event that they need. A pioneer has incredible forces and their one response or activity can turn the association. The most effective method to prepare a worker, what to encourage them and how to assess is the activity of a pioneer. To be a decent pioneer an individual should be a decent person since this is just path by which he would have the option to comprehend the wants and needs of his workers. Blog Archive Managing Your MBA Interview

Blog Archive Managing Your MBA Interview “What if I don’t know the answer to a question I’m asked?” This is probably the number one anxiety among business school candidates facing an admissions interview. Thankfully, however, it is largely an unnecessary one, because your interviewer will always be asking questions about a topic you actually know very wellâ€"you!â€"not questions that require applied knowledge or research. So, in an MBA interview, you will not need to know how to calculate a discounted cash flow or express your opinion about the U.S. interest rate policy. Instead, you must be able to reflect on and discuss your life experiences, why you want an MBA, the value you can add to your target program and how you expect to engage with it, and your reasons for wanting to attend the specific school at which you are interviewing. When mbaMission spoke with Bruce DelMonico, the senior associate director of admissions at the Yale School of Management, he was clear that the program’s interviewers are not asked to create a stressful situation for candidates, explaining that the interview is instead a “fairly standard behavioral interview.” He added, “The purpose is not to trick you or throw curveballs but [to] really get a sense of the applicant.” Similarly, Kurt Ahlm, the associate dean for student recruitment and admissions at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, told us, “Whether [conducted by] current students, alumni, or staff members, we approach interviews as a dialogue between two very interested parties who genuinely want to get to know each other.” As you prepare for your interview, start by reviewing your entire application in depth, paying particular attention to the stories you presented in your essays. Be sure to reexamine your reasons for targeting the specific schools you have chosen and get comfortable speaking out loud about your short- and long-term goals and ambitions. In addition, take some time to think about the inflection points in your life and how and why you made the particular choices you did at those important times. Finally, consider instances when you have performed as an individual or a team player. In short, your goal in preparing for your interview is to be ready with anecdotes that highlight important aspects of your personality, capabilities, and experience and to be thereby equipped to engage in a thoughtful conversation with someone who is there to listen to and learn about you. MBA interviews fall into two categories: blind and comprehensive. In a blind interview, your interviewer will not have read your file and will come to the meeting with very little information about you beyond, perhaps, what is listed in your résumé. As a result, you can expect to be asked primarily open-ended questions. For example, your interviewer may start with a fairly basic question like “Can you walk me through your resume?” or “Tell me about yourselfâ€"who are you?” As you answer this opening question, your interviewer may interject with a few questions along the way in response to certain topics as they arise. Or, he/she may just sit quietly and allow you to finish your response, then follow up with additional questions about why you feel you need to go to business school and why you have chosen this specific school. Later, your interviewer will likely ask you about your leadership and team experiencesâ€"both successes and failuresâ€"and may finish with questions ab out your personal interests and community activities. Blind interviews follow no real standard form. Your interviewer will pose the questions, but you can control a lot of the direction and tone of the interview by selecting the nature and content of your responses. In a comprehensive interview, your interviewer will have read your entire application file and will already have questions in mind, most often ones that focus on how you make decisions or respond to certain situations. For example, a question for someone who was transferred for a promotion might be “What were the differences culturally between the Los Angeles office and the Boston officeâ€"and how did you adjust?” Or, alternatively, someone who gained an early promotion might be asked, “Why do you think ABC Consulting made the choice to promote you ahead of others?” Although you will not be able to control the agenda of a comprehensive interview as easily as you might that of a blind interview, you will probably end up feeling challenged but not as though you had been “grilled.” Your interviewer is not trying to poke holes in your stories or trip you up in any way, but rather to better understand your choices, motivations, and personality by probing into your experiences in more depth. Regardless of the interviewer’s approach, many business school applicants still worry that they may be asked a single challenging question during the interview that will leave them awkwardly silent and that this moment will ultimately mark the end of their candidacy at the target school. We understand that such an experience would certainly be uncomfortableâ€"and we suggest, of course, that you prepare as best you can to avoid this kind of predicamentâ€"but we can assure you that an uneasy pause in the middle of an interview is not enough to cancel out all the positive elements of your application. Still, we offer the following tips to help you mitigate any uncomfortable moments: Resist the urge to launch into a story. Your instinct may be to just start speaking, hoping that you will find the right story as you progress. This is a high-risk strategy, because if it goes wrong, it can compound the problem. Instead, pause for a moment to form an appropriate response. You can even say, “That is a good question. I am going to have to think about it for a moment,” before answering. Take a sip of water, if available. Many interviewers will offer candidates a glass of water at the beginning of the meeting. Take the water, if offered, and use it throughout the interview as a buffer to buy time or force yourself to slow down. If you get stumped, the water can offer a brief opportunity to pause naturally, alleviating any awkwardness before you begin speaking again. Maintain your poise. If you absolutely cannot answer a question, do not become overly apologetic or grovel. Simply acknowledge that you are having trouble with the question and politely ask if you might come back to it at the end. This is not a best-case scenario, but it is certainly far better than rambling and apologizing. A confident approach during a tricky moment may even impress! Forget about it. If you cannot answer a question, accept the fact and move on. If you spend the rest of the interview thinking about that moment, you will be distracted and struggle with any subsequent questions. Many MBA candidates try to predict what their interviewer will ask them and memorize their interview responses in advance. Unsurprisingly, they later find themselves fumbling as they struggle to adapt their well-rehearsed answers to fit slightly different iterations of the questions they had expectedâ€"not a formula for a smooth, effective interview at all! Instead, we suggest that you compile a mental list of stories that you feel are important for you to share and then imagine different opportunities through which you might incorporate those stories into your interview. In other words, think about possible prompts to which you can “hook” the key points you hope to make. For example, if you spend one afternoon per week tutoring inmates to take the GED, you could include this story in your interview by adapting your response to different cues as follows: Tell me about a time when you demonstrated initiative. “I wanted to make a difference in my community but was looking for an opportunity to move beyond helping just high school students. So I researched where the biggest need was in my area and found a program that brings volunteers to prisons to tutor inmates who want to earn their GED” Tell me about a time when you went above and beyond. “For the past few years, I have been engaged in some meaningful serviceâ€"teaching GED prep in a local prison. I was surprised to find that inmates were only allowed to attend one hour of extra tutoring per week. Recognizing that my students needed additional help, I devoted extensive time and effort to developing a series of math and vocabulary flash cards for them to use between sessions…” Tell me about a time when you had to motivate a reluctant person. “I believe my best example occurred outside the office, as part of my volunteer work with inmates studying to take the GED. Although most of the inmates I tutor are very motivated, once in a while I work with someone who needs a little extra prodding. One inmate I worked with was not very willing to do the practice exercises, so I…” We are not suggesting you respond to three different prompts with the same story, of course, merely illustrating how the same core story can be used for multiple types of questions. By identifying your key personal stories and examining them from several different angles before your interview, you can better ensure that you will find a way to share them during your interview. mbaMission offers even more interview advice in our FREE  Interview Primers,  which are available for 17 top-ranked business schools. Pay-for-performance incentive rewards Free Essay Example, 1250 words

Multirater feedback can provide excellent information to an individual about what she needs to do to enhance her career. †3 The 360 feedback system is also accurate in providing data analysis of the performance of employees, besides; it also ensures personal and career development. One of the most important aspects of using this system is that it provides no scope of discrimination in an organization, which otherwise is an extremely big problem for some organizations. The system simply avoids discrimination because feedback of an employee comes from a number of individuals which also shows their readiness to give feedback. There are quite a few flaws in the system as well. Firstly, it is ought to fail if it is just an add on in the organization. It must be the supporter of an organization’s directions and fundamentals. They may inflate ratings to make an employee look good. They may deflate ratings to make an individual look bad. They may informally band together to make the system artificially inflate everyone’s performance. Checks and balances must prevent these pitfalls. † 4 Pay for Performance Incentive Pay or Pay for Performance is given for specific performance results rather than the time worked by an employee. It is beneficial for both, the employees, as well as the organization because an incentive increases motivation of employees to work harder and to achieve the goals of the organization and when more and more employees work towards the goals of the organization, both, the employees as well as the organization inevitably grow and prosper. Macbeth Character Sketch free essay sample

Macbeth is also a religious person. Before he kills Duncan, he says to Lady Macbeth that he will never be able to pray again if he does kill him. Now he is debating if he wants to kill him or not. Lady Macbeth knows her husband and she feels that he is â€Å"too full o’ th’ milk of him of human kindness† this basically mean he’s too nice. Also Lady Macbeth says he is a coward if he doesn’t kill Duncan. Macbeth doesn’t want to be known as a coward to his wife, so he decided to accept that he will complete the murder of Duncan. His ambition and bravery leads him to the final decision of deciding to do it. After murdering Duncan he is regretful, he shows fear and scared that he will get caught so he decides to murder the drunk guards to put the blame on them. We will write a custom essay sample on Macbeth Character Sketch or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Macbeth was named the new King. It didn’t start off good because he couldn’t sleep and he felt regretful of what he did. The first murder leads to a series of death. Macbeth feared Banquo because he knew what the witches prophesied to him. Macbeth also thinks that Banquo is suspecting Macbeth for the murder of Duncan. Another thing that bothered Macbeth is that Banquo has a line of kings like his kids that are next in line and the witches only promised Macbeth to become King no one else from his family. Macbeth decides that he will hire two murders to kill Banquo and his descendants. Macbeth and his wife slowly start to fade apart. Before the murders, Macbeth would tell her anything and now he didn’t even mention a thing to her about the death. Macbeth does the killing, but still has one problem to face, which is Fleance escaping. Also now Macbeth was going crazy and was haunted by Banquo’s death. Macbeth started to see Banquo’s ghost at the banquet. Macbeth was just worried about everyone, like he didn’t know what he could do. As the play goes on Macbeth felt more worried about his security as King. Macbeth needed to figure the best and worst of his future. The witches mention he will still be in dominating power. He was told that he will not be defeated until the Wood of Brinam comes to Dunsinane. The last thing was anybody born of woman cannot harm him. This all seems impossible to Macbeth. His evilness comes out of him completely when he has orders to kill all of Macduff’s family, once he was told that Macduff went to England. Macbeth heard the news that Malcolm and his soldiers are coming to Dunsinane. This bugged Macbeth, but he just continually kept thinking of the promises of the witches. He also refused to be afraid. Now Macbeth just thinks about all the trouble that becoming king brought him. His expressions that him becoming King is not worth the peace that he and Lady Macbeth had before. Even know all the other things he has on his mind, also the health of Lady Macbeth worries him. She committed suicide, and he doesn’t seem to care that much but it releases his anger towards his life, which he thought was dark and disappointing. When he finds out that Birnam Wood has started to move toward Dunsinane he thinks to himself and realizes that the witches would lie to him. Overall he decides that he’s going to die in battle. He knows that he will lose the war but also knows that he’ll never give up. He keeps attached to the second prophecy that the witches told him about nobody born of woman can hurt him. Macbeth finally see’s Macduff and refuses to fight him because he’s already sorry for the deaths of his family. Macbeth knows that he will kill Macduff too because he is born of a woman. Macduff then tells Macbeth that he was â€Å"ripped out† from his mother’s womb. They finally fight. Macbeth proves not a baby by fighting the battle. Macbeth was lied to by the witches. Towards the end Macbeth was aware that he cheated. Macbeth pays all the consequences. In the end Macbeth still dies as a strong and brave person.

The Situation at Segal Electric and Demings 14 Points

Comment on the Case at Segal Electric The case that happened at Segal Electric deserves too much attention and examination. Of course, the events cannot be changed, and the losses turn out to be rather considerable for the company. But still, this situation may help to prevent possible troubles in future and improve the organization of work somehow. The situation was the following: Pete, the general manager of Segal Electric, had to visit a quality seminar and entrusted the control the work of the team to Gene Davis.Advertising We will write a custom article sample on The Situation at Segal Electric and Deming’s 14 Points specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More However, in the result, the team faced certain troubles with 5051 fans, and a terrible â€Å"mix-up in the plant† took place. The general manager tried to clear up the situation, talk to George Mansfield, and find out who was guilty and what could be done in order no t to repeat the same situation in the future. The point is that not only one person tried to solve the problem that happened to the fans and the absence of professional assemblers. There was another person, who decided to be involved into that process, Sharon Morse. It is necessary to admit that George Mansfield has always one and the same thought in his head â€Å"if operations were running as they should, the company wouldn’t have to worry about warranty costs because there wouldn’t be any.† (Leonard, 1998) Such confidence has to be proved by some actions or, at least, words, and, in this case, the actions cannot be noticed. First of all, it is always necessary to have a certain number of extra assemblers in order to be ready for some emergencies. When the general manager was absent, some specs were just forgotten, that lead to the already known problems. This is why poor readiness for work is one of the first mistakes, made by all the members of the work team . Another mistake that deserves attention is inability to solve problems, when they appear, and weight all pros and cons at the same time. Gene Davis had to analyze the situation and tried to predict the results, when lots of thrust washers were load up on the shaft. The last but not the least mistake that has to be mentioned is loyal behavior of the workers. In the story, it was mentioned that people at the plant tried to be rather loyal to Sharon. In order to help her somehow and make quotas, the workers could â€Å"patch up rejected products and rush them onto the shipping dock.† (Leonard, 1998) Such information is spread among the workers and may even badly influence the further position at this job. However, it is not the main point. George Mansfield, with all his respect and a bit of annoyance to Sharon, tried to clear up the details of the case. And one of the major reasons of that accident still remains the absence of professional assemblers. If I were hired as anothe r management consultant to Segal Electric, the firth thing I would like to do is testing the workers and checking their abilities to cope with emergencies. It is quite possible that the skills of the workers need to be improved, and it is crucially important to find the time and make the necessary improvements.Advertising Looking for article on business economics? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More In order to achieve high results, it is necessary to start inside of the company. To my mind, this step should help to avoid the situation, described above. One more idea that comes to my mind is the necessity of strict division of the workers according to their duties. If one person should control the situation, he/she has the only right to make the final decisions and be responsible for them. Comment on Deming’s 14 Points William Edwards Deming was one of the most famous American statisticians and consultants, who emphasized that management is the only thing that may improve the quality. â€Å"In Dr. Deming’s 14 points, quality is the driving force at which all is focused.† (Blache, 1988) Deming presents 14 major principles in order to manage the effectiveness in transforming business. He articulates that the vast majority of problems appeared because of the mistakes in the system itself, but not in employees. To my mind, the idea to â€Å"institute training on the job† may be considered as one of the most significant points offered by Deming. (Manuele, 2003) With the help of training at working places, employees get a wonderful opportunity to improve their skills and their work in general. Driving out fear is another significant factor for effective work. Workers should not be afraid to go for their works day by day. Only in such case, the results of the company will hardly frustrate. Self-improvement is one more factor that, to my mind, plays a very important role. Training is goo d indeed, but if the workers want to learn something, they should have such an opportunity, and the system, where they work, should provide them with it. If all above-mentioned points could be applied at all companies, the accidents, like the one that happened at Segal Electric, would never disturb people. Works Cited Blache, Klaus, M. Philadelphia Essays - NYPD Blue, Andy Bernard, Andy Barrett

Philadelphia Essays - NYPD Blue, Andy Bernard, Andy Barrett Philadelphia The movie, Philadelphia, was an excellent example of the severe discrimination many people with Aids are exposed to. In this instance the main character, Andy ,was also gay. Unfortunately, in our society, he was faced with a double whammy. The gay iss is controversial enough, but to compound that in the work force with having Aids would be almost unbearable for any person to cope with. Tom Hanks played Andy with a serious need to communicate to the viewers how everyday life, work, emotions and ment well being are affected by this kind of situation. The movie was well cast and thoughtfully portrayed Andy's serious predicament. The theme was very interesting. It made me realize how lucky I am to not have to deal with those kinds of problems. It's really very frightening to realize, as Andy did, that even our legal system can be discriminating. When he started looking for a lawyer, he found many people who did not want to represent him because of his illness. The frustration he felt must ha been a real burden. Most people were afraid of him. Even the man who finally represented him was afraid of him. He soon came to understand Andy was no threat to his health or his reputation, but someone he learned from and ended up becoming friends th. Andy himself feared his disease even before he was sure he had it. He did not want to go for his blood test. He didn't want to face the reality of having Aids. He really didn't have any choice. After the doctor confirmed his fears and diagnosed him a having Aids, Andy began to deal with the news and the way it was changing his life and how people treated him. His employer was trying to shaft him. He fought for his rights, not knowing what the outcome would be, but knowing this was something he fel he must do. The turning point in the movie for Andy was when he was in the library trying to learn more about Aids. He was asked by the librarian to go to a private room. His lawyer was there and saw this happening, although he was hiding behind a pile of books. guess this is when he realized Andy needed him to help protect his rights. It killed me to think just because someone has an illness people don't understand that they can let their ignorance make them behave in a way they normally wouldn't. To tell yo the truth I can't honestly say I would have acted any different then the librarian did !!! The lawyer took the book Andy was holding out of his hand to show the librarian he was not afraid getting the disease by touching something Andy had touched. An must have felt one hell of a big relief when that happened !!! He finally had someone on his side. I hated the firm Andy worked for. At first they seemed okay, but after they tried shafting Andy, I was really pissed. He worked for them, produced for them, was an asset to their business and then they just blew him off. The blowing him off part wasn as bad as how they tried to do it. They tried to make him look like a loser. They cut down his work, his character, his abilities as an employee. What gives them the right to try and destroy someone's life Especially someone whose life is being d troyed anyway by the disease he has. The illness didn't affect the way he did his job or how well he did it. They were just a bunch of ignorant morons who didn't care about anything other than how having someone with Aids working for them would make t m and their business look..... and in their opinions it could ruin them. So, just fire the guy to cover their own asses. What a bunch of shit !!!! Especially coming from the very institution that was supposed to help protect peoples' rights, lawyers !! The whole system must have really gotten to Andy. Especially because he was a part of that very same system. I agreed with the verdict of the trial hands down. It really made me happy to see Andy get true justice. I also loved to see his so called "associates" eat crow pie !!!! I have to admit I was a little nervous during the trial. I wondered if the jury elt as strongly as I did about Andy's

Evaluating Human Resource Management Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words - 1

Evaluating Human Resource Management - Essay Example After hiring these employees, it is their role to improve the performance of the staff and make sure that their contribution to the company gets larger and larger as they prolong their stay in the entity. Moreover, the management should also make sure that the employees they hired abide by the rules set by the company and to know the demands of these employees to avoid conflict against the company. Aside from employee selection and hiring, the human resource management is also responsible for the benefits and compensation each and every employee is entitled of. The management has to make sure that they meet the needs of these personnel to avoid labour unions forming that ought to go against the company policy. According to McNamara [2005], small scale businesses do not usually have their own human resource management because they cannot afford to acquire either part-time or full-time help from independent contractors. These small scale businesses do the function and activities of the human resource management on their own. The managers of these small businesses have to monitor the employees they hired and make sure they follow the rules and regulations. Although they are small-sized businesses, it is also their responsibility to provide employee’s manuals to their staff to let them know the rules and policies and the rights that they are entitled of. In addition to what McNamara [2005] said, the human resource management have undergone some big changes over the past 20 to 30 years. Before, the human resource department was even called personnel department, which is in charge of just the employee paper works, hiring and giving salaries to personnel. However, drastic changes occurred which improved and gave a bigger responsibility to the management. This big change include staffing, personnel management, giving out extensive training to the

Do you agree with the Statement from Lord Patrick Devlin Essay

Do you agree with the Statement from Lord Patrick Devlin - Essay Example Do you agree with the Statement from Lord Patrick Devlin? The general public finds it convenient to refer simply to â€Å"The law† implying that there is one, universally accepted and externally imposed set of rules by which society is governed. Very often, this concept is tied to the individual’s sense of morality and values, perhaps stemming from religious beliefs or cultural experience. Hence it can seem that what is legal is not to be questioned – one system of law is very much like another since humans do understand what is right and what is wrong. And since the law is then instituted to protect individuals within the society, but more importantly the society at large, it may seem that the statement of Lord Patrick Devlin, that theoretically any invasion of privacy, however extreme, must be sanctioned, is accurate (Devlin, 1965: 118). If the society is to be protected, an invasion of the privacy of the individual is a small price to pay. Additionally, the society at large would permit such invasions, since each ind ividual would consider him/herself protected by the invasion of someone else’s privacy. In theory, the protection and service of the society must outweigh the rights of the individual, if the individual threatens that society. Legal practitioners and theorists, however, do debate and consider law as constructed, rather than as an external framework within which societies exist. Furthermore, the purpose of law is not as simply stated as: a set of rules meant to protect the society and the individuals within it, with the safety of the society being more important than that of the individual. In a world apparently embracing democratic and human rights principles more widely, the prioritization of the community over the individual is brought into question. As an overview, laws need to be defined as rules which people agree to be subject to, whether within their communities, or on a wider level, which they agree to within their societies or States. To have effective legal systems, the individuals within communities, societies or the States of the world must agree to abide by the laws they have recognised, and acknowledge the authority of the institutions or people who are appointed to manage those laws. There is, in the making of laws, likely to be some overlap between moral and legal rules but, more importantly, whether there is moral justification for a law or not, there has to be widespread convention within the community or society which recognises a law (Hart, 1994: 258). The argument must stand that there should be a rule of recognition – according to which the individuals within a society do recognise and agree to abide by a law. Some norms of a society do fall within the authority of the legal system, while others are socially accepted norms, not always framed by legal structures. All laws, though, are not necessarily connected to morality but do serve to coerce the members of a society into acceptable behaviours and practices. But laws can on ly be valid when private citizens meet their obligations, or obey the rules, according to the law, and public officials enact the conduct set out within those laws to manage and enact the legal system (Hart, 2004: 110, 116). Often if a legal system is able to meet such criteria, and there are no political reasons for defying the legal system, the population at large will with few exceptions, obey the law. Thus it can be proposed that the â€Å"judgement of society† can â€Å"sanction every invasion of a man's privacy, however extreme†

As a result the teachers preferred to use Local language just to make the student understand the discussions of Sharia. Sharia Law or Islamic Law derives its legal rules to Quran and Hadith. Stress In The Workplace :: Workplace Health and Safety

1. In today’s fast paced Air Force, it is very common to hear someone in an office saying "I’m so stressed out". With the big drawdown of personnel in all the armed forces, the Air Force was no exception. We were forced to do more with less. So for this one reason, it is likely that you will find stress is prevalent in the workplace. Because different people respond differently to the same type of stress, some people seem to cope better than others (1:4). When dealing with computers, the trick is finding a healthy balance between positive, motivating stress and stress overload, which can affect the body in different ways. Understanding stress an help you change that feeling into a positive challenge. Therefore, stress with computers can become a thing of the past. 2. You will find computers in just about every office, regardless of the type of business it is. In today’s world, computers have become the way to do business, communicate with the world, or just having one for personal recreation. Office work in general is full of potential stress, from not enough light and noisey offices, to deadlines and demanding bosses. Additional sources of stress come directly from using the computer: monotonous keyboarding, hours of staring at the screen, and lack of physical movement (2:85). For these reasons, we need to bear in mind that stress management should be a combination of reducing the stress, relaxing, and rethinking our expectations and self-demands, i.e., breaking the everyday routine, planning ahead, making wise use of breaks or lunches, eating right, and exercising every day to keep healthy (2:86) 3. Stress is an instantaneous physical reaction to a danger or demand: "muscles tighten, blood pressure rises, the heart speeds up, and extra adrinaline rushes through your system" (3:2). No matter what you occupation, everyone feels stress at one time or another. Stress is a fact of life (3:2). That is why control stress is to your advantage, versus it controlling you. Learning to control stress is to your benefit so that you feel, 1) calm, instead of nervous, 2) in control, instead of hassled, 3) alive, instead of burned out, 4) at peace, instead of angry, 5) refreshed/renewed, instead of frazzled (3:3). Physical and Psychological affects of stress may be prominent if stress exists in your life. Some ways for you to reduce stress include but are not limited to: exercise, deep breathing, hobbies (3:11-12). Personal stress relievers are getting enough sleep, talk worries and anger, and not substituting alcohol, tobacco and other drugs for relief of stress

Compare and contrast ‘Charge of The Light Brigade’ and ‘Dulce et Decorum Est’ Essay

In this essay, I shall be comparing two poems namely ‘Charge of The Light Brigade’ by Alfred, Lord Tennyson and ‘Dulce et decorum est.’ by Wilfred Owen. Wilfred Owen was actually a soldier in the war, whereas Alfred, Lord Tennyson had no experience of the battle itself and only wrote the poem based upon the second hand evidence that he either read or heard. ‘Charge of The Light Brigade’ delivers a strong message base on the theme of the war. The poem gives the impression that war is a glorious and noble act and consists of phrases such as ‘When can their glory fade?’, ‘Honour the charge they made!’ and ‘The Noble Six Hundred’. This shows that in Alfred Lord Tennyson’s opinion it is noble and glorious act to fight and die for one’s country. Alternatively, Wilfred Owens’s poem has a far more negative outlook on war. Contrary to Tennyson’s noble and proud view of war Owen believes that dying in a war s a horrible, bitter death especially when such an end is as a result of a gas bomb being discharged in the surrounding area. He recounts graphic and horrific descriptions a soldier gradually dying while gasping for air. Some of the phrases that the poet uses to convey the hideous horror of the battlefield are; ‘He plunges at me, guttering, choking, drowning’, ‘And watch the white eyes writhing in his face’, ‘come gargling from the froth-corrupted lungs’. I believe Wilfred Owen includes these vile descriptions to show the stark reality of war and the ultimate human sacrifice that so many of those innocent young men endured while fighting for King and country.. While the theme of both poems is of war; they are in fact depicting two different battles. The poem ‘Charge of The Light Brigade’ was written to commemorate the battle of Balaclava in 1854 while the other poem ‘Dulce et Decorum Est ‘ was written to reflect battles of the First World War in 1916. The poem ‘Dulce et Decorum Est’ tells the story of a young man and his fellow troops who march into war and find themselves fighting for air when a gas bomb hits the battlefield.

The Disease Lung Cancer - Free Essay Example

Sample details Pages: 2 Words: 729 Downloads: 1 Date added: 2019/10/30 Category Medicine Essay Level High school Tags: Lung Cancer Essay Did you like this example? Lung Cancer begins when cells in your body start to mutate or change. There are many factors that can cause these mutations to happen. Most often, this change in the cells happen when people are exposed too and or breathe in dangerous and toxic substances. Even if you were exposed to these substances many years ago, you are still at risk (NCBI, 2011). There are many treatment options and support offered to those who are diagnosed. Etiology of Lung Cancer Smoking is the number one cause of lung cancer. Tobacco smoke contains many chemicals that are known to cause lung cancer. Radon exposure is the second-leading cause of lung cancer. Radon is a colorless, odorless radioactive gas that exists naturally in soil. It comes up through the soil and enters buildings through small gaps and cracks. One out of every 15 homes in the U.S. is subject to radon exposure. Exposure to radon combined with cigarette smoking seriously increases your lung cancer risk. Exposure to certain hazardous chemicals poses a lung cancer risk. Working with materials such as asbestos, uranium, arsenic, cadmium, chromium, nickel and some petroleum products is especially dangerous. Particle Pollution refers to a mix of very tiny solid and liquid particles that are in the air we breathe. Evidence shows that particle pollution†like that coming from that exhaust smoke†increases the risk of lung cancer. Finally, the last cause of lung cancer is through genes. G enetic factors also may play a role in ones chances of developing lung cancer. A family history of lung cancer may mean you are at a higher risk of getting the disease. (American Lung Association, 2018) Don’t waste time! Our writers will create an original "The Disease: Lung Cancer" essay for you Create order Clinical features of Lung Cancer The Signs and symptoms of lung cancer can take years to develop and they may not appear until the disease is advanced. Symptoms of lung cancer that are in the chest include; coughing, especially if it persists or becomes intense; Pain in the chest, shoulder, or back; A change in color or volume of sputum; Shortness in breath, Changes in the voice or being hoarse, Harsh sound with each breath (stridor), Recurrent lung problems, such as bronchitis or pneumonia, Coughing up phlegm or mucus, especially if it is tinged with blood and or coughing up blood. If the original lung cancer has spread, a person may feel symptoms in other places in the body. Common places for lung cancer to spread include other parts of the lungs, lymph nodes, bones, brain, liver, and adrenal glands. Symptoms of Lung cancer that many occur elsewhere in the body include; Loss of appetite or unexplained weight loss, muscle wasting (also known as cachexia), fatigue, headaches and or bone and joint pain, Bone fracture s, neurological symptoms, such as unsteady gait and or memory loss. Other symptoms include neck or facial swelling, general weakness, bleeding and or blood clots. (CDC, 2018) Lab Data There are several laboratory tests that may be done during the diagnosis and staging of lung cancer. These tests are any procedure that evaluates a sample of blood, urine, other bodily fluid, and or tissue. While there is not a single test that can determine if a person has lung cancer, it can provide additional information that helps doctors determine the best treatment for the patient. A complete blood count is a test that measures all different components in the blood. Blood is made up of many different cells: red and white blood cells, and platelets. Abnormal findings from a CBC include; low levels of red blood cells that can indicate anemia, low levels of blood platelets can point to a tendency to bleed and difficulty forming clots. Also, low levels of white blood cells can place a person at higher risk for infections. Blood Chemistry is another test that detects levels of substance in the body can identify abnormalities in some of the organs. (Lung Cancer, Laboratory Tests, 201 7) Red cell distribution width (RDW), one of many routinely examined parameters, shows the heterogeneity in erythrocyte size. We investigated the association of RDW levels with clinical parameters and prognosis of lung cancer patients. Clinical and laboratory data from 332 patients with lung cancer in a single institution were retrospectively studied by univariate analysis. Kaplan-Meier survival analysis and Cox proportional hazard models were used to examine the effect of RDW on survival. THE RDW LEVELS WERE DIVIDED INTO TWO GROUPS: high RDW (=15%), n=73 vs. low RDW, n=259 (15%). Univariate analysis showed that there were significant associations of high RDW values with cancer stage, performance status, presence of other disease, white blood cell count, hemoglobin, mean corpuscular volume, platelet count, albumin level, C-reactive protein level, and cytokeratin 19 fragment level. Kruskal-Wallis tests revealed an association of RDW values with cancer stage in patients irrespective of co morbidity (patient with/without comorbidity: p0.0001, patient without comorbidity: p0.0001). Stages I-IV lung cancer patients with higher RDW values had poorer prognoses than those with lower RDW values (Wilcoxon test: p=0.002). In particular, the survival rates of stage I and II patients (n=141) were lower in the high RDW group (n=19) than in the low RDW group (n=122) (Wilcoxon test: p0.001). Moreover, multivariate analysis showed higher RDW is a significant prognostic factor (p=0.040). RDW is associated with several factors that reflect inflammation and malnutrition in lung cancer patients. Moreover, high levels of RDW are associated with poor survival. RDW might be used as a new and convenient marker to determine a patient's general condition and to predict the mortality risk of lung cancer patients. (PLOS, Koma, Onishi, Matsuoka, Oda, Yokota, Matsumoto, Koyama, Okada, Nakashima, etc, 2013) Diagnostic Evaluations There are many procedures utilized to identify lung cancer. The first evaluation is an X-ray. A chest X-ray uses high-energy electromagnetic radiation to provide images of the lungs and surrounding tissues. This image-guided technology is an important procedure for cancer diagnosis, staging and treatment. Another type is a CT scan for lung cancer. Computed tomography (CT) scan is one of the most commonly used tools for screening, diagnosis and treatment of cancer. A CT scan reveals the anatomy of the lungs and surrounding tissues, which cancer doctors use to diagnose and monitor tumor growth. Lab tests for lung cancer are compiled of three separate tests. First, we have Genomic tumor assessment, which examines a tumor on a genetic level to find the DNA alterations that are driving the growth of cancer. By identifying the mutations that occur in a cancer cells genome, we can better understand what caused the tumor and tailor treatment based on these findings. Second, we have Tumor molecular profiling. If a patient has a solid tumor, doctors will try to get a sample of tissue during a biopsy or surgery. Then, they will test for the presence of a variety of enzymes, proteins and genes to identify which therapies may help. The final part of lab tests is Nutrition panel. With this test, doctors evaluate patients for deficiency of nutrients, such as vitamin D and iron. The test helps the doctors identify what nutrients patients need replaced or boosted. In order or all of these tests to be completed, a doctor will collect a blood sample, and then send it to a pathologist. A CT angiogram is another form of an evaluation. A CT angiogram allows doctors to examine the pulmonary artery, which is the main artery that supplies blood to the lungs from the heart. In this test, a special iodine-based contrast material in injected into the body before a CT scan to illuminate the pulmonary artery and smaller blood vessels in the chest. A CT angiogram is done when a patient is experiencing shortness of breath. A PET/CT scan for lung cancer is another form of evaluation. A PET/CT scan is an advanced nuclear imaging technique combines positron emission tomography (PET) and computed tomography (CT) into one machine. The scan reveals information about both the structure and functions of cells and tissues in the body during a single imaging session. The scan creates a 3D picture of the lungs, but it may miss small tumors if part of the lung has collapsed, as it sometimes the case. A PET scan goes beyond anatomy to show what is happening at a cellular level in the tiss ues of the lung. Biopsy for lung cancer is another form of evaluation that doctors use. During a lung biopsy procedure, the doctor removes a small piece of tissue or fluid from the chest, so it can be examined under a microscope to check for cancer cells. If the cells are found to be cancerous, a biopsy may help determine whether the cancer began at the site of the biopsy or if it started somewhere else in the body and spread to the biopsy site. Endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS) for lung cancer is a less invasive bronchoscopic procedure used to evaluate and sample cancerous cells in the chest. In most cases, EBUS is performed as an alternative to a mediastinoscopy, a surgical procedure used to collect samples in the chest while the patient is under general anesthesia. An EBUS uses ultrasound guidance to detect cancerous cells in the lungs and in the lymph nodes of the chest in real time. Autofluorescence bronchoscopy for lung cancer allows physicians to identify cancerous cells in the bronchial tubes that may not be visible under white light examination. The doctor can then remove a small sample of abnormal tissue for further analysis. This method is used to find and diagnose tiny tumors. For the procedure, the doctor will insert a scope through your mouth or nose and into your lungs. Then, a video camera and two different light sources will give the doctor a view of the patients airways. (Cancer Center, 2017) Treatments for Lung Cancer Although there is no cure for lung cancer, there are several treatment options for this disease. The most common treatments are radiation, surgery and chemotherapy. Other treatments include; Immunotherapy, Neurosurgery, targeted therapy, interventional pulmonology and metastatic lung cancer to the liver. For everyone these treatments, there is a community of people to help you along the way. CancerCare has partnered with LUNGevtiy to develop a cancer helpline. There is financial assistance for those who cannot afford treatments. Connect with others in free support groups, either online or face to face. Community resources are available for those who need it. (CancerCare, help by diagnosis, 2016)
